Sunday gatherings

What a Sunday looks like

Sundays differ a little from week to week, but this is the shape. Draft, based on HOM Church — confirm for HOM International

  1. Songs

We sing together. The words are on a screen. You do not need to know the melodies or have a voice. It is about the heart, not the performance.

  2. Talk

Someone speaks for a while from the Bible, practically, about real life. Different people speak on different Sundays.

  3. Prayer

Time to pray, together or alone. If you only want to sit and listen, that is fine.

  4. Coffee

After the gathering there is coffee and something sweet, sometimes a meal. This is where you meet people.

Your first visit

No surprises. Here is how it goes

  1. Arrive a few minutes early

Someone at the door will say hello. Tell them it is your first time, and they will show you where things are. Or do not tell them. Both are fine.

  2. Sit wherever you like

There are no reserved seats. The back row is a legitimate choice.

  3. Take part as much or as little as you want

Sing or do not sing. Pray or just listen. Nobody will ask you to stand up or speak.

  4. Stay for coffee if you can

This is the best part. If you are alone, say so; you will be introduced to someone.

Questions people ask

Before your first visit

Do I need to be a Christian to come?

No. Sundays are open to everyone, whatever you believe or do not believe. You can come, watch, listen and leave. Nobody will put you on the spot.

What should I wear?

Whatever you wear on a normal day. There is no dress code.

Is it really all in English?

Yes. Songs, the talk and the conversations are in English. Many of us are not native speakers, so plain English is the norm.

Will I have to say or do something in front of people?

No. You will not be asked to stand up, introduce yourself, sing, or pray out loud. If you want to just sit and watch, that is fine.

Will someone ask me for money?

No. There is no entrance fee and nobody will ask you for money. People who are part of the church give voluntarily; a visitor is a guest.

Can I bring children?

Yes. [TODO: describe the kids programme, age groups and whether parents can keep children with them.]

How long does it take?

From 16:00 to about 18:30, then social time with snacks. We leave the building around 19:00.

I have been hurt by church before. Is this different?

We cannot promise we are perfect. We can promise nobody will pressure you, and you can set the pace. If you want to talk first, write to us.

Can I come alone?

Yes. Many people do the first time. Tell whoever greets you that it is your first visit and they will introduce you to someone.

How do I find the room?

[TODO: short directions from the main entrance: floor, signs, who to look for.]

Something else? Write to us. A real person answers.

Sunday is the front door.Life happens during the week

Most of our life happens in home groups, around tables, in prayer and in the international community. If Sunday felt good, that is the next step.
